So, I've been thinking about this for a while, and this week it really hit me hard.

I think I'm going to close Nova (for now anyway) as I am just spinning my wheels, and I'm not sure where to take her atm.

And in her place, I'm going to build a small map (part of the work is already done there) and start a new series focused on a Polaris Class ship, a small, agile vessel built for the defense of earth and her allies during the Earth-Romulan war.

I don't want to spoil too much, but North Star will focus on some stories, locations, and races we have never seen before (with a fair bit of inspiration from BSG, Lost in Space, Voy, DS9 and Ent)

I think it'll be a fun experience, and I look forward to your feedback, theories, and general hype for this as I post pictures of the map, cryptic messages possibly containing spoilers, and what not :P

To start out the hype train, a brief overview of the Polaris:

Class: Polaris Class
Registry: NCC-82
Roles: Short Range Exploratory, Escort
Maximum Speed: Warp 3
Cruising Speed: Warp 1.2
Length: 110 Meters
Max Crew Compliment: 45

Primary Weapons:
4 High Yield Phase Canons (2 Dorsal, 2 Ventral)
                1 Fore Photonic Torpedo Launcher
                1 Aft Photonic Torpedo Launcher
Defensive Systems:
                Polarized Hull Armor
Mk II EM Modulated Shield Generator

Auxillary Craft:
                1 Type I Shuttlepod
                2 Worker Bee Drones

Additional Tech of Note:
Polaris is the first ship to utilize the new, experimental Industrial Replication technology, allowing the ship to resupply a number of critical components while in flight, and away from a Starbase.

Polaris is also equipped with an experimental Long Range sensor pod, located on the lower section of the Saucer. This pod allows the ship to scan upwards of 5 systems away with alarming accuracy.

Most of the technology of note has been tested and tweaked by the USS Daedalus (NCC-170) during the current conflict with the Romulans, Polaris marks the second ship in Starfleet to be equipped with most of these toys, testing how a smaller, more under powered vessel could handle them; as directed by Commodore James Allen.

First Look: The Bridge (Still WIP)

She's small - and rightly so. The doors on the left and right will lead to a small corridor with the ready room, a conference room, and a staircase/ramp that heads down to the next deck. (Ideally, the entire ship will be connected by this method, and the Turbolift)

We're looking at 3 and a bit decks, with lots of tiny room - I'm aiming for a 22nd Century version of the Defiant, we'll see if I hit that aesthetic.

Stay tuned for more updates! :)

A Fun little read, referring to the meaning of the Title, and the ship's namesake

*May* hint at story elements...

I think I'm on the track I want to be on with the pillars. I'm going to experiment with a light changing function, which will force the pillars to change hues based on Alert Status (maybe even night mode) and those hues will also alter the ambient light (I think it will create a more immersive experience - if I can pull it off...)

Also going to build 4 corner panels for the corners of the bridge, and I'm thinking about a standing tactical console directly behind the CO, but we'll see. Progress is slow, but she's coming :)

Haven't opened the map up in a while, but going to spend a few days the next couple of weeks to work on it. I'm *hoping* for a March/April launch of North Star.

The first leg of the series will see some rehashing of a tale we've already seen - it'll make for some interesting Dynamics. and if I link this here as a teaser - I think at least one person may get some excitement from it.

" can't experience the wonders of the universe in pictures and graphs. The only way to truly understand the mysteries is by discovering them yourself." - Commodore Vasili Ivanovich Koslov, Earth-Defense Coordinator

Been playing around with consoles (I'm not great with patches, but I'm trying to use them to build the consoles around the ship, it'll open up more possibilities for us if I do :P)

Anyway, after I got these consoles in over the weekened, I kinda felt like we were looking at a 22nd Century Defiant Class - am I the only one getting that vibe? :P

So, I've been working pretty hard on this ship, I think I have the bones of the Bridge done - it needs some texturing and detailing work still, but I can come back to that when I get the rest of the deck finished

Here's the bridge from Aft:

Currently working on the rest of A Deck, which will include a small corridor between a staircase and the Ready Room (Door on the left of the CO's Chair), a Conference Lounge (Door on the right of the CO's Chair), I'm considering a small corridor between the ready room and the Conference room, which will curve around the View Screen (I can do it, just not sure if I need/want to) And I'm laying out a Turbolift in my head. Expect it to be small - like Nova Small.

I'm hopeful for a spring release - so much so that I even made the Episode 1-5 Promos...

...fingers crossed :)

Construction of the LC Class began days after the Xindi attack of earth.

Following Admiral Forrest sending Enterprise out alone into the Delphic Expanse, a conference was called in Paris with United Earth Officials, and Starfleet Brass. Captain Vasili Koslov was included, as head of the Siberian Ship Works (Or 'The Domes' as they're known colloquially)

A series of plans were introduced, ranging from overhauling the old Daedalus Class starships, to starting Warp 7 trials with the Intrepid class ships. Koslov proposed being able to quickly build a quick, versatile warship which he believed his team could get off the yard, and into space by the end of the year.

Koslov showed off an array of advanced weapon prototypes, and defensive shield generator sketches that caught the attention of the UE government, but angered the brass of Starfleet.

With a green light, Koslov returned to The Domes, and got his team into Overdrive, but delay after delay - bump after bump and Admiral after Admiral forced the design further and further away from what he originally envisioned. the LC class was a shell of what she was meant to be, instead of a Warp 5 Engine, she was fitted with a Warp 3 - Instead of being allowed the time to harden the new metallic alloys for the hull crossbeams, Koslov was forced to use older metals, comparable to the Intrepid and Neptune Classes...

Finally, though - he stayed true to his word, and at the dawn of 2154, the first LC Class Starship was born.

Koslov christened it Polaris, as a comment that no matter the storm you face, keeping your bearing on an unyielding star will always get you where you need to go...
